A Youth Leadership Movement

AIESEC is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. We are a non-political, independent, not-for-profit organisation run by Youth and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Its members are interested in world issues, leadership and management. AIESEC does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion or national/social origin.

Since we were founded, we have engaged and developed over 1,000,000 young people who have been through an AIESEC experience. The impact of our organisation can be seen through our alumni who represent business, NGO and world leaders, including one Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Martti Atisaari of Finland.

Our Stories

Working in AIESEC for two years alongside my studies has not been easy, I can say, but the experience has helped me to gain a vantage in such skills that I would have not been able to get from my studies alone. Talking to strangers trying to get them convinced going abroad for volunteering, for instance, is not a piece of cake, it takes effort and trials and failures after one another, but when you make it the feeling of success is amazing.

Nevertheless, AIESEC is not only you succeeding but instead, doing it together as a team. Leading a team that achieved, for me never having done this before, was the crucial turning point of realizing what my team and I are capable of. We all knew this is something important we are working for and that kept us going till the finish line, together. AIESEC helped me to understand the real power of teamwork and for that, I’m eternally grateful.

My name is Janne, and I study the German language at the University of Turku. I volunteered in Romania where I worked on a career orientation course in a local high school.

During my time in Romania, I had the chance to teach and coach local high school students in their future career plans and interests. I had no prior teacher training! It was amazing to connect with the students and hear about their dreams, hopes and ambitions. I also learned to work together with people from the other side of the world – I was working with volunteers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore.

I am now more aware of what’s happening in the world, and more confident in my ability to impact other people’s lives. I learned important facilitation skills that will support me in my own professional life. I lived through an experience I would not have gotten to live otherwise, and it changed me for the better. Not to speak about the friends I now have all over the world!
